Dinso Logo: Semester 1, Project 2

For our second assignment, our project was to create a logo for a gaming company. I made up the name Dinso (it probably means something provocative in a foreign language, right?) and decided the company specialized in fantasy games (think dragons, spears, and elves).

As we would say in the theater/dance community, my logo is a bit "first choicy." In other words, the items I chose are the very first thing that came to mind (as opposed to investigating the topic to find something more interesting/novel). However, I don't think first-choicy is so bad for my second modeling assignment.

So without further ado, meet Dinso:

The goal of this assignment was to get comfortable with beveling and extruding 2-dimensional shapes. I started by making the flame and dragon tail on a 2d plane.

The white lettering is extruded -- in other words, they are 2d letters that were pulled along a third plane (with no change to the original x,y components) to provide depth. The flames and tail are beveled, which is similar to extrusion, but you can also change the x,y components as you increase the depth. In this case, I beveled inward, creating a slope towards the center of each object.

Obviously, the tail is supposed to take the place of the D in Dinso. This is a bit of a fail -- I need to find a way to close up that D.

Kind of cool and yet probably pretty boring to read about, eh?

SPYBOT: SEMESTER 1, PROJECT 1

Hello!

I'm in my first semester of 3d animation and am absolutely LOVING the work we're doing. I thought that it could be fun to chronicle my progress, even though none of my work is professional-level. Yet.

My first assignment was to create a robot of my own design using primitives, or pre-made, alterable 3-dimensional shapes. The software I'm using is Autodesk 3d Studio Max, which comes with about 7 (don't quote me on that number) primitives.

Meet Spybot!

I think he turned out pretty cute! He disguises himself as a Roomba, but when no one is looking, out comes his surveillance camera, microphone, etc.

...And yes, that's a USB port for his eye. I didn't have any grasp of lighting when I made this, so it's hard to make out some of the details because the picture is so dark. I'm pretty happy with this for my first-ever project, though!
